Big Bluegrass First in Juliette, Georgia!
Acoustic Productions and the Juliette Opry are proud to present the nationally acclaimed band – Missy Raines and the New Hip, at the Juliette Opry on Friday night, Oct 9, at 7:30. This award-winning bluegrass band is straight out of Nashville and is headed up by the bluegrass veteran bass player, Missy Raines. The New Hip stormed the stage at the Douglass Theatre for an Acoustic Productions concert in 2008 and “About.com” listed the New Hip as one of the Top five Bands to watch at Merlefest in 2009. Missy Raines has wowed crowds in the Ma
con area several times, appearing as a member of The Claire Lynch Band, the Brother Boys, and with guitar powerhouse Jim Hurst. Raines is at the top of the short list of superstar bluegrass bassists and is a beloved figure in bluegrass music. She has won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA), “Bass Player of the Year” award seven times and has been nominated for the honor again this year. Her solo CD was chosen by the Chicago Tribune as one of the top five bluegrass albums of the year. She has either performed with, or recorded with nearly all of the great ones in the bluegrass scene. Tony Rice proclaimed that “Playing with Missy Raines is like walking on air!” The New Hip is loaded with some of the highest octane players in the business with Missy Raines on bass, Mike Witcher on dobro, Dominick Leslie on mandolin, national flatpicking guitar champion Dillon Hodges on guitar, and Rob Crawford on percussion. The band “cleans out the musical refrigerator” cooking up an exciting blend of traditional bluegrass sounds, complex jazz diversions, soulful blues, and red hot acoustic eruptions – all coming from traditional bluegrass instruments. In addition to their instrumental virtuosity, the group brings great vocals to the table ranging from Missy’s steamy voice to the tight harmonies you expect from a great bluegrass band. The bluegrass faint at heart should fasten their seat belts because the New Hip offers up a roller coaster ride that is guaranteed to get the adrenalin pumping! Tickets for the event are $15 and can be obtained by stopping by The Whistle Stop Gift Shop in Juliette, Bowdion’s Grocery Store in Juliette, Ladebco Music store in Forsyth or by making reservations with Joe Cullison at 478-254-2495 or Bryant Leggett at 478-256-1560.
